William Shakespeare, who wrote “Hamlet” at the beginning of the seventeenth century, did not suspect what a grand fate was destined for his work. Hundreds of theatrical productions around the world (the play is still put), dozens of film adaptations (Hamlet is considered the most adaptable in the cinema literary work, and the first film version was released already in 1900), thousands of actors who dream at least once to make the famous "famous" be or not to be?". These words flew from the lips of Sarah Bernard, Vasily Kachalov, Innocent Smoktunovsky, Lawrence Olivier, Vladimir Vysotsky, Mela Gibson and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
And only the playing industry remains the only media format to which Hamlet is less interesting. In all history, only one game on this topic was made – in 1997, according to the film of the same name by Kenneth Brann. But almost no one noticed her. Correct the flagrant injustice volunteered in Russia: it is here that the quest comes out in the near future Gamelet , Which, however, is more likely not to memories about Shakespeare's play, but about the games of Yakub Dvorski and American McGi.
But do we go to Wiliam of our Shakespeare?
Gamelet does one person – Denis Galanin, hiding under the nickname MIF2000. In the game industry, he is already seven years old: in different years, Denis was a designer, screenwriter and programmer in such projects as Ex Machina And " Cimbion ". Now he is a typical independent developer: in the portfolio of Galanin, little -known copyright sketches and several extremely ambitious ideas. Denis wanted to make a game on Hamlet for a long time, but by no means out of love for Shakespeare's work or this particular play. The point is just in the ambitions and originality of the plan itself. “In my new project, I wanted to use some well-known work that the game industry bypassed,” he said in an interview with Gambling. – So, to my surprise, it was “Hamlet”.It remained to get acquainted directly with the text of the tragedy. I myself consider Shakespeare a rather boring writer, but I like what influence his work had on humanity as a whole. Therefore, I watched Michael Almerida Hamlet movie and made an adaptation of the plot of the play on its basis ".
Denis asked for humor to relate to what he was saying, but about the “boring Shakespeare” Galanin, apparently, is not joking. Otherwise, how to explain the fact that he was originally going to retell Hamlet in the format of the Trash Arkada?
At first, Gamelet thought like a site at the junction Metal Slug and the episode from the movie "The Last Cinema", where Hamlet-Shvartzenegger explodes his native castle. Later, Denis fell into the hands of excellent tools for creating quests, and the author decided that the militant would wait. Despite the shift of the genre, Gamelet was preserved by a certain “black -legged” spirit and an ironic attitude to the “boring primary”. We have already seen the closed demo version of the project and became convinced of this personally.
Games in the classics
If you leave the numerous quests for the detectives of Agatha Christie and Conan Doyle, it should be recognized that games in classical literature are a rather rare phenomenon. However, we managed to recall several examples.
Most Romantic Tales: Romeo and Juliet
Visual novel from the independent studio Baby Eish Games about Romeo and Juliet. The meticulous adaptation of the classic plot is supplemented by a unique opportunity to personally affect the outcome of the tragedy. The entire gameplay boils down to choose replicas options in dialogs. So, it depends on this choice whether Romeo and Juliet will die or will be found in marriage.
"Eugene Onegin"
Another visual short story, this time from the Russian comic-TRUPP Dreamlore. Well, you yourself know everything about this perky hooligan trick: Pushkin’s poem turned into a vigorous stem, where Onegin and Chatsky fight with zombies, vampires and Evgeny Bazarov, who conducts ominous scientific experiments on people. And all this is in the Anime Antuge.
Enter The Story
A unique series of art-house quests, which close to the text, retell the world literary heritage. At the moment, three episodes have already been released: according to the “outcast” of Hugo, the “divine comedy” of Dante and the “theogony” of Hesiod. The author’s plans, Chris Tolvorfli, “War and Peace”, “Crime and Punishment” and a couple of dozen books.
Poor Hamlet
The full name of the game sounds like this: "" MIF2000’s Gamelet, or the last game without MMORPG elements, shader and advertising ". And this, of course, immediately sets the general spirit of the game. We are waiting for PlayHub Casino sister sites a parody made in the format of a small but proud cartoon quest for 3-4 hours of passage.
Most of all, it resembles a boorish American McGee’s Grimm. Fortunately, you will not have to urinate at Ophelia or Polonia, nevertheless, the classic story will be subject to some, let's say, a revision. Start at least with the fact that the main character of the game is not Hamlet at all. The Danish prince was just about to avenge the murdered father and return his beloved Ophelia, but just at that moment a flying saucer landed directly on him. A man came out of it, suspiciously reminiscent of a gnome from the “Self -Rede” dilogy, looked around the remaining wet place and understood: so that the “Binding Thread” does not break, he himself will have to finish the Danish work he had begun by the prince.
Accordingly, key events and characters (Ophelia, Claudius, Rosencrantz, Guildenster, Laerte, Polonia) are preserved in the game, but everything was filed with a powerful share of irony. Ophelia, for example, will hang in a cage above the water and screech loudly, and polonium – rush into us with grenades. But we repeat, there are no arcade elements here. In mechanics it is clean " Self ".
The Danish prince saves the Russian quest
“The player will have to solve logical riddles within the same screen, while neither dialogues nor inventory are provided. Your task is to properly interact with active points on the screen in order to complete the task and go further, ”Denis explains. That is, those who are familiar with the "Self", in Gamelet will immediately feel at home. Here you can touch the cursor of any object and see what it will lead to: somewhere the bouquet we were alarmed, something will go in motion somewhere, the lever will drop, it will run … The main character here exists on equal terms with any other active sector screen – you can click on it, but indicate where to go and what to do is impossible and pointless. You can "reach" anywhere, without reference to the hero. Gamelet rules are elementary.
In addition, the game has bosses. They are waiting for us at the end of each storyline and in one way or another try to interfere with the hero. Claudius, Rosencrantz with Guildenster, and Laerte will be bosses. Polonium grenades – also a boss. It is necessary to neutralize the enemy, not by force and fireballs, but with ingenuity – again, interacting with objects on the screen again correctly.
Denis asked not to describe specific puzzles and game situations, but believe me: a lot in Gamelet looks as touching, original and funny as in the works of Yakuba Dvorski. Despite the parody orientation, there is no vulgarity so characteristic of the “Russian quests”, and the visual design, despite the budgeting eye, is more than worthy. The chopped caricature style and soft palette vividly remind of the initial sketches to the mentioned American McGee’s Grimm (which in fact turned out to be much more we have more wealthy three -dimensional models from the game itself).

Well, if the full version is made at the same level as the demo we saw, consider that you already know in what vein the coming review will be written. After the “nun” Gamelet, of course, it is difficult to claim a quest revolution, but it seems to him to generate an extremely intriguing fashion for the game of classical literature. Be or not to be – you decide, already this summer.
We will wait? The second Hamlet game in the world and the first “Russian quest” for many years, for which is not ashamed.
